CRYPTO SCAMMERS from North Macedonia!
Facebook sponsored advertising links to a fictitious Reporting Democracy interview featuring a well-known North Macedonian football player, all in an attempt to trick viewers into handing over their personal information to a cryptocurrency fraud.
FAKE articles posing as authentic websites are being directed at North Macedonian social media users in an effort to trick them into participating in cryptocurrency trading schemes. BIRN’s Reporting Democracy is one of the websites that the con artists are impersonating.
North Macedonian police had previously warned people to be wary of such dubious content, claiming that schemes that mimic reputable websites and display clickbait content had been in place for at least the last two weeks.
In the instance of BIRN’s Reporting Democracy, a paid Facebook advertisement is being used to persuade the targeted individuals to click on a fraudulent website. The phony website features an interview with the well-known Macedonian football player Goran Pandev that was staged and uses the same branding and logo as the real one.
“The Central Bank of Macedonia Sues Goran Pandev for His Statements on Live Television” is the attention-grabbing title.
